Blog. A Six Pack To Go?

If “six pack abs” are a priority in your life, you probably know there are exactly two ways you can get them. You may already be pursuing the best way: diet and exercise. If you’re not, here’s a quick look at what you’ll need to do.

To get that ripped look naturally, the first order of business is to adjust your diet. Adopt eating habits that keep fat at bay: meaning you should choose foods containing whole grains instead of simple carbs, and consume healthy fats (in moderation) such as olive oil and nuts. Ensure you also get plenty of protein to help build muscles.

Cut out processed food loaded with sugar, salt and preservatives and limit soda and alcohol. Choose whole, fresh foods and drink lots of water instead. And consider eating several small meals during the day instead of fewer large meals. Chances are you’ll avoid the starving-overeating roller coaster this way.

At the same time, create an exercise program that emphasizes strength building. Focus on your core muscles with moves like crunches, and be sure to work on the rest of your body too, including arms, back and legs. Your entire physique needs to be in tune with those abs you’re aiming for. Include a good measure of cardio in your training regimen as well, to make sure your program is balanced and to assist with fat burning.

Some guys devote themselves to a regimen like this and don’t succeed in developing a six pack–it’s oftentimes a case of unfavorable genetics. For the right patient there’s another way: targeted liposuction, also called abdominal etching. The best candidates are men who are relatively slim already with strong muscles underneath a modest belly fat pad.

Prior to performing the procedure, we make precise markings of the patient’s abdomen. We then use a special cannula to perform light lipo over the entire region, and in the areas where there are natural muscle depressions we remove a small measure of fat. The idea is to sculpt and enhance a guy’s natural muscle contours for a more athletic look.

Interested? You should know that this is not the right procedure for men who have larger fat deposits. Traditional liposuction is better for blasting love handles and belly pooches. If you believe you might be a candidate, you also need to keep in mind that you’ll want to work at maintaining your results. Packing on fat in the future may change the look of your abdomen, as will the aging process.

Come in for a consultation and we will review the procedure in detail. We’ll discuss your candidacy and have an open conversation with you about the pros and cons of targeted lipo as well as the results you might expect. Then you can make an informed decision.
