Non-Surgical Cures for Man Boobs?
We have noticed an uptick in Internet activity promoting non-surgical cures for gynecomastia. Any scheme designed to relieve hopeful people of hard-earned cash bothers us, but as a practice specializing in gynecomastia surgery in Manhattan, we really cringe when we see a blitz promoting a miracle cure for man boobs.
Wouldn’t it be nice if there were a pill you could take to modify the shape of your physical features? We certainly don’t fault people for hoping some of these products might bring about male breast reduction. We understand that man boobs are troubling, and plastic surgery is a big step that’s not for everyone.
Unfortunately, there’s no objective evidence that even the most frequently and convincingly touted oral “treatment” for gynecomastia actually works. Before you invest in a so-called natural remedy, think things through critically. For instance:
- Visit the forums on gynecomastia.org where men discuss their experiences freely and without censure. You will find plenty of people warning about miracle cures, and no one able to demonstrate that they work. If these treatments did work, gynecomastia.org would be the first place you’d read the news.
- Consider how long women have been trying to change the size of their breasts without surgery. If there were a pill that enlarged or reduced breast tissue – in females or males – wouldn’t the media be all over it?
- Google the name of leading miracle cures and it’s a good bet you will come across dozens of warnings about the products before you find information about their effectiveness. Where you will find people claiming these products work is on personal blogs and obscure websites, not on well-respected medical sites.
- Search for product names connected with the mainstream medical community, such as the FDA, the New England Journal of Medicine, the American Society of Plastic Surgeons and so on. You won’t find a connection.
Finally, we also understand how people can feel cynical about elective surgery. In our society, non-essential medical procedures are sometimes very heavily marketed too. But even if your first thought about plastic surgery alternatives is that they’re not welcomed by the industry – consider how the industry has embraced BOTOX® Cosmetic, dermal fillers and the like. Non-invasive treatments are perfect complements to surgery in practices across the country.
If the bad news is that oral “medication” for gynecomastia doesn’t work, the good news is that cosmetic surgery does. In our practice in Manhattan, gynecomastia patients by the hundreds are treated each year. The procedure is safe and delivers permanent results that delight the men we work with.
