Blog. What to Expect When You Fly in for Gynecomastia Surgery

We often say that it’s worth it to travel to work with a gynecomastia specialist who performs hundreds of surgeries each year. And Boca Raton, where our plastic surgery practice is located, is a great place to visit. We understand it’s a big decision, though. Here’s some more information to help you think it through.

Making the Call

First, if you’re on the fence about traveling, take a good hard look at the gynecomastia talent pool in your area. If you’re in a fairly urban setting, you may be able to find a surgeon with the experience needed to know how to handle man boobs properly. Be assured that it is tricky to sculpt smooth, masculine contours, and why even a board certified plastic surgeon with a good general reputation might not be the right choice.

Then, visit gynecomastia.org and browse the forums. You’ll see just how many guys are unhappy with their results. Perhaps this research will confirm that it’s better to travel to get the targeted expertise you need than to risk a do-over.

And speaking of gynecomastia revision, our practice is a go-to destination for second surgeries. It’s even more critical to choose an expert for man boob revision due to the increased challenges of the procedure. We will certainly welcome you to work with us if the need for a do-over should arise, but it’s better to get it right the first time.

Before You Take Off

If you’re serious about traveling to Manhattan, we will have a video conference first. In order for this meeting to be as productive and informative as possible, we will ask you to send in background medical information and detailed photos. We’ll also request a list of questions you’d like us to address. In return, we’ll send a preliminary diagnosis, a surgical treatment plan and an estimate for the costs of the operation. Then we can plan to meet face to face online.

If you decide to move forward, our veteran front office staff will assist in planning the itinerary including where to stay and local transportation. Payment, paperwork and medical tests will be settled prior your trip as well.

When You Arrive

When you arrive, we will all be looking forward to meeting you face to face. We’ll arrange a visit to our offices at least one or two days prior to surgery. We’ll examine you carefully to confirm the surgical approach. Rarely does the plan need to change, but we do occasionally tweak our strategy when we feel chest tissues, get a better sense of skin quality and so on.

We’ll confirm last minute details of the big day, make sure you feel ready to go and send you out to enjoy the sights until it’s time for surgery.

Surgery and Afterward

You should be staying near our offices, so you can come to our practice easily by taxi or perhaps even on foot. You’ll be taken in hand by our warm, attentive staff, and our M.D. anesthesiologist will meet you and explain more about the day ahead. These folks are terrific at calming last-minute nerves! One to two hours later, surgery will be done. You can go to your hotel to relax the same day.

If you’ve chosen to bring a family member or friend with you, great. Although you can expect to feel pretty alert and in minimal discomfort after initial recovery in our care, you do need someone to take you to your hotel and stay with you at first. If you don’t have a companion, we can arrange for a trained assistant.

We’ll ask you to remain nearby for gynecomastia surgery follow up for a few days. Once you’re ready to head home, we’ll be sure you have detailed instructions to pave the way for the smoothest, quickest recovery possible, and we’ll set up remote appointments for you to check in with us.

What If…

You may be wondering what happens if there’s a gynecomastia complication after you leave South Florida. First, the techniques we’ve developed in more than thirty years of performing man boob surgery make this a very rare occurrence. Should a worry arise on your end, we can usually handle it via Skype or Facetime discussions. In the unlikely case of a true problem, we can work with a local doctor as needed.

Is it really possible to feel easy about traveling for man boob surgery? Why not contact us and start finding out? You may be surprised how satisfying it can be to connect with us on line. We’re experts at working with patients like you!
